Mission Statement

When a dear friend of the family passed away, I was left with a modest inheritance. Having no desire to squander it in the stock market, which I understand to be largely manipulated by trades I do not understand, I chose to invest it in Real Estate. A market which I understand well enough, and in which the things I want have a tangible quality. The same quality I have found somewhat lacking in a market where TSLA has lost 62 cents per share while those same shares have increased by over 600% in value. This is not to say that prices in some sectors of the real estate market do not suffer from (or have not suffered from) similar bouts of irrational exhuberance; it is merely to state that the calculations involved are much simpler. The process for unveiling the bullshit of another more clear-cut. I am not establishing this blog to fulfill that purpose. Agents elide things in listings all the time. It's their job, and unveiling it isn't particularly interesting.

What's a lot more fun is watching them squirm with a truly hideous property; a truly crazy seller; a house worth less standing than demolished. Will this blog inevitably cover the more creative euphemisms of the trade while I search for a suitable investment property? Absolutely. Will it cover tangential subjects like indifferent absentee landlords/investors, urban renewal projects, property taxes, and the thousand other related issues? Yes. But these will not be it's primary focus. At it's core, this project is about finding the whackiest listings, the most absurd descriptions, and the most irrational sellers.

Should you find yourself featured on this blog, and find anything I have written untrue you are welcome to message me with your side of the story to be posted here. If I've made any errors of fact in the offending post, I'll be happy to offer a retraction of them, whatever they may be. Be aware, however, that I will exercise my own due diligence before posting so you're going to have to prove to me that Philadelphia's L&I, BRT, or OPA data is inaccurate. Should you find yourself featured on this blog, and find it amusing, let me know. I'll be happy to feature it. Well, that about wraps it up. Our house tomorrow will be 3103 Cecil B. Moore Avenue.
